The First Thing My Dad Ever Taught Me
11 Sep 2008 01:49 AM
Way before riding a bike, swimming and diving, and
even reading notes and playing the piano, the first
thing my Dad ever taught me was...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
Hehehehehe! I'm kidding, of course! But we do like San Miguel beer a lot...
I had thought to post about my dad today because it was his birthday yesterday (September 10).
My dad Mel Villena is one of the finest musicians out there, but even more than that, he is really the most wonderful father.
Cheers!

Just Another Eraserheads Reunion Concert Post
01 Sep 2008 10:54 PM
I was a huge fan of the Eraserheads during my
elementary and high school years, and I still am a
big fan of their songs, so naturally I couldn't miss
this event. My brothers and I bought all their
cassettes - they and I couldn't afford CD's back
then. I also knew how to play some of their songs on
the guitar.
Luckily, Marcus Adoro is a good buddy of Dex and Rap way back from their college years (and when Eheads was at its peak in popularity) so we got SVIP passes.
Looky who we bumped into! Yay!
Rob, Sheila, Lea, me and Rap
Counting down the minutes to the show (with matching loud heartbeat sound effects)
Okay, so crappy photographer + crappy camera = crappy photos. They don't do justice (considering the concert's superb production value, among other things)... But I felt compelled to take them anyway.
Most memorable crowd chant during the evening: "Group hug! Group hug! Group hug!"
And no, I didn't join the chanting...
We got wind of the news that Ely Buendia collapsed during the break after the first set, so even before it was official, we quietly sneaked out of the venue. Of course my heart sank at the turn of events, but I was still too high to be downright disappointed.
And today I learned that they were supposed to do another 15 songs, and that the first set was just a warmup. Sad. I missed Huling El Bimbo, Magasin, Pare Ko, and a dozen other songs whose titles I've forgotten but could probably still sing to.
